Our History
We first opened our doors on April 1st, 2022 and have beenserving our Rockwall community ever since. We have rapidly grown to be one of the top primary care practices in our area with an abundance of highly-rated testimonials from our current patients. Our practice was founded with the intent of bringing back patient-first care, an idea that has become scarcely embraced in our current healthcare market.
Who We Are
Our providers and team members have a true passion for healthcare, and this is clearly reflected in our patient care. We believe in little to no wait time, unrushed one-on-one appointments with your provider, and to be able to consistently provide the most comprehensive and compassionate care possible to our patients. We never want our patients to feel rushed, that is why we do no overbook our schedule. All of our patients deserve proper one-on-one time with their provider to ensure the best care is received. Your health is our priority.
What We Do
At Merak Health Primary Care our providers offer a personalized approach to primary care services through our tailored annual physicals, chronic disease management, and many other services offered at our Rockwall, Texas office. For those who are homebound, our team also offers house call services to give patients the personalized care they need in the comfort of their own homes. Our providers use a preventative and holistic approach to help patients achieve optimal health to better prevent and manage many chronic conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), etc.
From lifestyle support to medication management and refills, our team is here for you to ensure that you get the care you need to be healthy and happy for many years to come.

Dr. Akhil Vats
Meet Dr. Akhil Vats, our physician! He graduated from Rajiv Gandhi Medical College and completed his residency at West Penn Allegheny Health System in Pittsburgh. He has been practicing medicine for the last ten years, providing his community the care and respect they deserve.
Dr. Vats understands that each patient is different, unique in their own way, and that treatment plans will vary to meet the needs of his patients. He is dedicated to taking the time to build trust with each patient, and to ensure all their needs are met with the utmost care.

Sherrie Hoover, FNP-C
Sherrie Hoover, FNP-C, is a compassionate and experienced Family Nurse Practitioner who
has been proudly caring for patients in the Rockwall community for over 13 years. She is dedicated to providing comprehensive, patient-centered care for individuals and families
across all stages of life.Sherrie earned her Master of Science in Nursing and is board-certified through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Her clinical interests include preventive health, women’s wellness, chronic disease management, and patient education. She is passionate about empowering patients to take an active role in their health through lifestyle changes, early detection, and individualized treatment plans. Gillian Palmer, APRN, FNP-C
Gillian is a dedicated nurse practitioner with a passion for holistic care and patient-centered health. Growing up in Oklahoma, she developed a strong foundation in nursing at the University of Oklahoma, where she earned her undergraduate degree. She later attended the University of Texas at Tyler and became a nurse practitioner.
Gillian believes in the intrinsic value of every life and takes a collaborative approach to healthcare, emphasizing kindness, shared decision-making, and comprehensive support for her patients.
In her spare time, you will find her enjoying time with her husband and their two littles.

Jera, Office Manager
Meet Jera, our Office Manager! Jera is a Texas native, born and raised right next door in Mesquite, Texas! She brings years of invaluable expertise to our practice as well as her kind and friendly demeanor. Her attention to detail, compassionate patient care, and extensive knowledge have quickly made her an asset to our team. Outside of the clinic you can find Jera crafting or spending time with her family.
Ashley, Receptionist
Meet Ashley, our receptionist! She grew up in Colorado Springs, CO but has lived in Texas since 2014. She is a certified medical assistant and strives to tailor each patient’s experience to fit their own needs. Ashley believes all of her patients should leave their appointments well informed, and with a peace of mind. When not working, you can find Ashley at the local bowling alley with her league, or working on diamond paintings.
Kristen Cox, MSN, APRN, FNP-C Family Nurse Practitioner
Kristen Cox is an accomplished Family Nurse Practitioner with nine years of dedicated experience in family care, urgent care, emergency medicine, and in-home care. A proud graduate of Walden University, Kristen brings a compassionate, patient-centered approach to every aspect of her practice. Her well-rounded background allows her to deliver exceptional care in both clinical and home settings—meeting patients where they are with professionalism, empathy, and precision.
Throughout her career, Kristen has been recognized for her calm demeanor, clinical expertise, and commitment to improving patient outcomes. She takes pride in providing high-quality, evidence-based care while fostering meaningful connections that promote trust, understanding, and long-term wellness.
